|Health and safety manager|
Plan, implement and direct loss prevention programs to protect personnel, property and equipment. Manage health and safety loss prevention programs. This key position, is responsible for providing functional leadership and technical expertise to the leadership team and for developing and executing the strategy to meet its overall health and safety vision. assures location is in compliance with applicable regulations that affect health and safety. Policies and procedures are to be developed and communicated to ensure compliance with provincial and local regulations.
Duties and Responsibilities:
o Coordinate and oversee accident investigations, inspections, safety committee meetings, site security (i.e. C-TPAT) and emergency response team.
o Follow up with management to implement suggestions or answer feedback about unsafe conditions or unsafe acts.
o Plan, implement and document training to meet regulatory requirements or company objectives for occupational health and safety.
o Implement and direct the facility health, safety, security, fire prevention and loss prevention policies and procedures.
o Work with leadership team to promote a strong Health and Safety culture and coach leaders to ensure their voice of commitment is heard.
o Review and report facility results from leading and lagging metrics to management for corrective action and recognition. Prepare and distribute monthly facility safety statistical reports and analysis. Submit the required numbers and information to corporate safety. Assure corrective actions are completed in an effective way.
o Responsible for the scheduling, documenting and recording of industrial hygiene, as required by government agencies or issued permits
o Direct company hearing conservation program. Includes new hire and annual testing, noise surveys and noise reduction programs.
o Stay abreast of local regulations and liaison with the health and safety consultants, industry associations/groups, government agency inspectors, insurance and other contracted services.
o Review of all plans for new machinery, new processes or chemicals and make recommendations as it relates to permit changes, safety concerns or procedural/training needs.
o Support engineering and maintenance personnel regarding design of machinery guards, handrails, etc. to ensure safe design and to meet safety regulations and requirements.
o Conduct health and safety orientations for new hires and contractor personnel on safety policies and procedures and including hazard communication.
o Coordinate and oversee Health and Safety programs (i.e. contractor management, personal protective equipment, chemical management, emergency response team)
o Participate in monthly health and safety conference calls and company-wide monthly incident review calls. Actively participate in development of corporate programs to influence the successful implementation of those initiatives at your site.
· Equivalent Education Required: A degree in Safety Management is preferred, but not required.
· Experience Required: A strong interest in occupational health and safety management. Proven experience engaging the workforce and influencing leadership. Strong communication and people skills are essential. Computer skills are required.
